Administrator Privileges

In some cases, EtreCheckPro may need Administrator Privileges to perform certain operations. In other cases, EtreCheckPro may be able to collect more data with Administrator Privileges. These operations are as follows:

• Enable Gatekeeper (Administrator Privileges required);
• Remove Adware (Administrator Privileges may be required); and
• Storage chart (Administrator Privileges will provide more data).

EtreCheckPro never directly asks for your administrator password. EtreCheckPro also never installs any “Helper” software. Instead, EtreCheckPro uses AppleScript to perform any operations using Administrator Privileges. This way, when you enter your administrator password, EtreCheckPro never sees it. Your administrator password is verified by Apple’s command-line AppleScript tool osascript. The password dialog will say “osascript wants to make changes”.
